OUR HOME

We live in a nice two-story apartment right on campus (university housing). We have been greatly blessed, as the apartment turned out to be superior to what most people have around here, and it’s quite affordable. People are amazed with the fact that we were allowed to live here (maybe there is a waiting list?) AND that the place has wooden floors, AND it’s furnished (most of the things are brand new: new, big, refrigerator, new flat TV –that we don’t use –, new bed and mattress, new table and chairs, new rice cooker, etc.). It has AC in most rooms, that is, not central AC (central AC is rare). The worse room is the kitchen: there is almost no counter space, the sink is old and badly designed, the shelves are not enough, etc. There is a gas stove (only two burners, so you need to carefully plan the cooking order) and after all the talk about nobody having an oven in Taiwan, one of the professors gave us a tiny “oven”. It’s like a grill, but you can bake and broil! Anyway: two bedrooms, two bathrooms (with showers), an office, living room / dinning room and a little patio where the washing machine is located and we hang our clothes to dry. Our apartment is surrounded by bushes, and a couple of pine trees. There is an similar apartment attached to the left side of ours. Our neighbors are nice: he is a professor, she works part time and their daughter is 10 (I'm her English tutor).
